Strikeforce has a descent roster of fighters that can provide a challenge for fighters on the UFC's roster. The fact that Strikeforce fighters would come in wanting to make a statement to earn recognition as top level fighter. What Possible Match-Ups Could We See With Zuffa/UFC purchasing Strikeforce? Pt. 1 Champ vs Champ

While UFC President Dana White has said in his recent interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAfighting.com that there will not for the time being be a complete or immediate absorption of the Strikeforce roster, that does not mean that the rosters of both promotions will not come into contact with each other. For fighters in Strikeforce who would prefer to fight in the bigger promotion where a bigger payday & legitimate recognition, as most fighters undoubtedly do, their contracts would still have to expire or see if a negotiation between the companies can happen to get to their goal sooner. Obviously there have been super fight match-ups that fans have been demanding over the years between top & recognizable fighters from both promotions, that had previously been impossible to assemble due to White's insistence that the UFC will never be involved in co-promoting a fight with another promotion. Though White is still insistent on this position, the fact that Strikeforce fighters now have an almost assured ticket into signing with the UFC has opened doors for such match-ups that fans have been demanding. In the first installment of this two part piece, we will examine the obvious & more promotable fights that have the more likelihood of happening with champion vs champion should one of the mentioned fighters' contracts reach expiration, or a complete absorption through a merger occurs which would essentially demand unification bouts to declare which of the two promotions truly held the best fighters in the world of the shared divisions.

Some Of The Biggest News In MMA & UFC History: Zuffa Purchases Strikeforce

Early today on March 12, 2011, it was announced that Zuffa, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, had purchased the number two American based MMA promotion Strikeforce. Since the brand of Strikeforce grew in popularity & recognition, UFC President Dana White was ready for interviews where he would put down the competing promotion with criticism from their style of promoting, to their lower level competition of fighters, while also saying that having competing promotions helps to build the UFC along with the sport. With counter-programming & jabs from UFC brass, this purchase of Strikeforce by Zuffa comes as a complete shock to UFC-only fans & widespread MMA fans altogether. While there are so many questions to be asked by fans, including from us personally, there is potential that keeping the San Jose based promotion alive will benefit both companies, and push the sport to great heights.
