Three bouts for the main card of UFC On FOX 2 have been confirmed with major title implications in two divisions. The main event will pit TUF2 winner and former Light Heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (16-1-1) against 4x NCAA1 Penn. State All-American collegiate wrestler Phil Davis (9-0-0). The co-main event will be a Middlweight bout pitting top contender and elite wrestler Chael Sonnen (26-11-1) against heavy handed fellow former collegiate wrestler Mark Munoz (12-2-0). And the second bout on the card will be another Middleweight bout pitting TUF3 winner Michel Bisping (22-3-0) against elite third degree BJJ black belt Demian Maia (15-3-0). Each of these three bouts will have major significance in both the Light Heavyweight and Middleweight divisions for the title pictures. For Evans vs Davis, should Evans wins he is guaranteed his long awaited title shot that has been postponed repeatedly which will happen against the winner of Jon Jon vs Lyoto Machida for the title at UFC 140, while Davis will likely be one or two more fights away from a title shot with a victory over Evans. For Sonnen vs Munoz, the winner is guaranteed a shot at reigning Middleweight champion Anderson Silva later in the year after he is healed up from his injuries. A win for Sonnen would allow him the chance to avenge his previous loss where he was just a couple minutes away from winning the title, but would have likely been stripped of it seeing that he had to face multiple legal battles that kept him out of action for over a year. For Munoz this would pit him against his former training partner in Silva, and would be interesting seeing that Munoz knows his strengths and tendencies. For Bisping vs Maia, the winner is made the #1 contender to fight the winner of Silva vs Sonnen/Munoz. In the situation where Silva could be out longer than expected or unable to defend his title within a certain time frame, the winners of Sonne/Munoz and Bisping/Maia could fight later on again for #1 title contention or even for an Interim title.
Main Card bouts:
Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis
Chael Sonnen vs Mark Munoz
Michael Bisping vs Demian Maia
